1. What ages can join AFC Southgate?
​
We welcome children from age 4 upwards.
Our Diddy Dragons programme is for 4–5 year olds, Development Coaching for 6–11 year olds, and Academy teams for U12–U18.
Each stage focuses on fun, skill development, and confidence building.
2. How can I book a free trial session?
​
Booking is simple – visit our New Player Trials page or click “Book a Free Trial” on the homepage.
After your session, our coaches will provide feedback and guidance on the best next steps.
3. Where and when are your training sessions held?
​
We train mainly at Winchmore Hill School every Saturday, with some additional weekday sessions at Southgate Hockey Centre.

4. How many teams does AFC Southgate have and which leagues do they play in?
​
We currently run 16 teams from U7 to U18, competing in the Watford Friendly League and North London Youth League.
Each team has dedicated coaching staff and structured match programmes.
5. What is the Diddy Dragons programme?
​
Diddy Dragons is our fun introduction to football for 4–5 year olds.
Sessions focus on coordination, teamwork, and building confidence with the ball in a friendly, pressure-free environment.
6. Do you offer specialist goalkeeper training?
​
Yes – our goalkeeper sessions run weekly for all ages.
They focus on positioning, handling, reaction drills, and match situations, helping young keepers build skill and confidence.
7. What’s the difference between Development Coaching and Academy teams?
​
Development Coaching builds technical skills, confidence, and game understanding in a non-league setting.
Academy teams are our competitive squads that train at a higher intensity and play league matches each weekend.
8. How much does membership cost?
​
Fees start from around £34 per month depending on age group and session type.
All sessions include professional coaching, facility hire, and club registration.

9. Can parents or adults get involved as coaches or volunteers?
​
Absolutely!
We welcome volunteers, assistant coaches, and qualified FA-level coaches who share our club values.

10. What are AFC Southgate’s club values?

We develop players as people – focusing on respect, teamwork, and effort both on and off the pitch.
11. When are new-player trials held?
​
We hold open trials several times a year, typically around June and September before each new season.

12. What safeguarding and welfare policies do you follow?
​
AFC Southgate adheres to FA Safeguarding Standards.
All coaches hold enhanced DBS checks and complete child-protection training.
Our Club Welfare Officer ensures every player trains in a safe, positive environment.
13. What happens if training or matches are cancelled due to weather?
​
If poor weather affects a session, updates are sent via our team WhatsApp groups, email, and social media.
We always prioritise safety and aim to reschedule where possible.
